There was a super response this weekend to our plea for volunteers at Millbrook Caravan Club. Despite the cold breeze on Saturday (thankfully the rain held off) 15 hardy volunteers turned out. Not just B4RNPR regulars, not just the near neighbours to the Caravan Park but helpers from across the village (including a couple of teenagers!). On Sunday the numbers were down but still good progress was made. The plan for the weekend’s work was for 2 phases of work. The first was to trench from the old mill race to Peasey Beck. This looked fairly easy being across open space - a 5 minute job for a couple of guys with a mini digger. Well it would have been if we hadn’t found that below the grass were remnants of old buildings - walls and iron girders — it slowed us down but didn’t stop progress. The second phase was to dig a trench alongside Peasey Beck. Now this was a killer - the ground was riddled with tree roots and boulders so the 12 volunteers had to hand dig for 120 yards. Thanks to everyone who turned out and special thanks to Diane, Sue and Bhavika for the refreshments (loved the chocolate brownies!) and Gail for the hot drinks - much appreciated. NEXT STEPS Because the Caravan Park will be open to clients from the beginning of March the plan is to work on both Saturday and Sunday next weekend (29th February and 1st March) to complete this section of the Endmoor core route which will ultimately connect us to the B4RN network at Gatebeck Farm. If we can get a similar number of helpers, and ideally the use of a second mini digger, we will achieve that. Please meet on site at 09:15am. All help welcomed, from digging to providing refreshments, so as before, if you think you will be able to help (even for a couple of hours) just let us know. Please email johnplyons43@gmail.com using the Subject “B4RNPR Millbrook”. Due to the forecast bad weather this weekend the scheduled digging at Millbrook Caravan Park has been postponed. Instead it is now scheduled for the following Saturday (22nd) starting at 9am on site at Millbrook Caravan Park.
If you can help in any way, please come down and join the team of volunteers. We are looking for a wide range of support from helping to dig, laying turfs, to the supply of hot drinks and food. If you would like to help, or would like more information, it would be helpful if you could email John Lyons johnplyons43@gmail.com. But don’t worry if you can’t, just turn up on the day. Everybody is welcome. Diggers please bring your own spade & gloves and/or a firm broom/rake. |
